Robert Musil: The Man Without Qualities

The monumental novel The Man Without Qualities remains unfinished. In this work, the Austrian novelist and essayist Robert Musil (1880-1942) created an ironic, disillusioning panorama of modern society and its thought, set in the environment of the imperial and royal Austro-Hungarian monarchy. A wave of increased interest in Musil's work erupted ten years after his death, after 1952, when fragments and concepts from his estate were published and when the Rowohlt publishing house began publishing Musil's collected writings with this book. "There is no other work in the history of the world novel where thinking has played such a fundamental role as in Musil's The Man Without Qualities. " - Milan Kundera
