Retrospective
Miloň Čepelka said of the author's second collection: "Josef Pepson Snětivý is happy and prolific in his frequent solitude, it's a joy to read him, it's a joy to share with him his every mood, every insight, every amusement. Four twelve-part Blues, and within them four sonnets, here and there a limerick, a few haikus, an anecdote or an epigram alongside serious contemplation, all with the ability for self-irony and a sense of linguistic playfulness and precise thought. Take note of: the puberty of cherry trees, a shabby chimney that has long since been a non-smoker, August as a collaborator with autumn, and how a comet tails in the darkened sky. Don't overlook the theory of the big un-bang, be wary of sun cream, and then search for yourselves. Pepson's poems turn reality inside out and back again, they don't shy away from provocation and evaluation ("Sabina's Faithful Informing" and "we don't resist, thus cleverly spoiling the victor's joy"), they will force you to verify certain claims. Is it true, for example, that "the blacker the night, the more you see the white smoke"? I think not, but if it is the smoke "rising from our bodies," it is undoubtedly a poetic truth. If poets are sometimes divided into so-called learned versus spontaneous, thinkers versus singers, I responsibly declare that the author of the collection Retroperspektiva combines both types within himself, and that is a joy for a lover of poetry."
