Redemption from Shawshank Prison

A story of friendship and the desire for freedom

The Shawshank Redemption, Stephen King's iconic novella, presents a fascinating story of hope, friendship in the worst of times, and an unbreakable desire for freedom. This modern classic, originally published in 1982 as Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption in the collection Different Seasons, was adapted in 1994 into one of the most beloved films of all time. The film, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, received seven Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture, and has become a cult legend.
The story, narrated by the inmate Red, follows the fate of Andy Dufresne, a former banker wrongly convicted of a brutal murder. In the harsh environment of Maine's Shawshank Prison, Andy, with his quiet determination and enigmatic personality, changes the lives of everyone around him – especially Red, a man who “knows how to get things” in the raw, uncompromising environment. This thrilling and deeply human novella is a celebration of the indomitable spirit, the power of friendship, and the yearning for freedom.
This standalone edition with the film poster cover is being released to mark the thirtieth anniversary of its Oscar nomination and serves as a reminder of why this story is considered one of the most remarkable examples of King's storytelling mastery.

Stephen King

Stephen King (born 21st September 1947 in Portland) is a contemporary American writer, who also publishes under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. He studied English literature and briefly worked in a laundry, delivered newspapers, and taught. He started his writing career in 1974 and successfully continues it to this day. He is best known as an author of horror, but he also writes thrillers, sci-fi, and fantasy. He is also drawn to various experiments, creating theoretical works that describe the horror genre. Most of his works have also been published in Czech translation, thanks in large part to the publishing house Pavel Dobrovský - BETA. Many of his books have been successfully adapted into films. Movies such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, which are now ranked among the top ten best films of all time, were based on King's works. Stephen King's books, full of references to American life, popular culture, and especially rock music, successfully merge the fictional world with the real one. Into the atmosphere of ordinary life, which the author masterfully evokes, he gradually inserts supernatural elements, often escalating into a complete inferno. He writes about artists struggling with creative problems and haunted by supernatural forces, about evil in a small town, about violence against women, and about a child's view of the world.
