Rapl of Bartholomew
Memoirs of a criminal with the soul of a robber and the heart of a storyteller
Here we go! My last tour of duty is over. I came out of my office for the last time. My gaze rested on the small oval enamel number thirty above the door. From a brass frame mounted on the wall, I slid out my name tag, which for years had defined the space of my kingdom. The kingdom of criminalist Major Miroslav Hyhlik from the Department of Detection of Violent Crimes of Prague 1. What now with the forty years? Throw them on paper. Here they are together. Be careful though - most of these cases shoot live rounds.
Major Emeritus Miroslav Hyhlík is one of the legends of Bartholomew's criminalists. For forty years he has been involved in investigating thousands of different cases, some of which often defied common sense.
In his first book, he reveals the backstage of the Prague underworld, prostitution, and spivs of the 1980s, when justice struggled with the absurdity of the times.
In the wild nineties, while on duty, he found himself trapped by the inspectorate and the military prosecutor's office, which put him in the dark dungeon of Pankrác prison. Despite all the difficulties, he returned to his beloved Bartolomějská Street and together with his colleagues continued to fight crime.
He describes individual cases in a raw style, but at the same time reveals his penchant for sarcastic commentary.
