Quinientos anos de La Habana (1519-2019)

Havana - a city that has been important to the entire Atlantic world since the early sixteenth century. In colonial times it was the American terminal of communication linking the Old and New Worlds, in the nineteenth century it became one of the most important centres of the world sugar trade, and in the second half of the twentieth century Fidel Castro wanted to make Havana the bastion of the world revolution. Havana was not only a political and economic base, but also a place of flourishing culture. The publication, published on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the founding of the settlement, brings diverse perspectives on the history of the town. The authors of the contributions are renowned experts from the US and European countries, among them Allan Kuethe, José Antonio Piqueras, Françoise Moulin Civil and Miguel Ángel Puig-Samper.
