Quantum mechanics I.
The first volume of this modern two-volume textbook on quantum theory provides a comprehensive and self-contained introduction to non-relativistic quantum theory. It guides the reader from the formal structure of the theory to archetypal problems, the theory of symmetry in quantum systems, and the motion of spin in external fields. An introduction to the relativistic theory of the electron is also included, tailored for the study of atomic systems. The text concludes with appendices on the mathematical apparatus of quantum mechanics, written on the borderline between “physical” and mathematical precision. The theory is illustrated with a quantum-mechanical description of a series of problems, along with demonstrations of corresponding experiments.
This book is intended for Master's and doctoral students working—whether theoretically or experimentally—in the fields of atomic systems and solid-state physics.
The authors have drawn upon many years of experience lecturing on quantum theory at Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno, the Czech Academy of Sciences, and also abroad.
The second volume of the textbook is primarily dedicated to the many-particle theory of atomic systems.
