Quantum Mechanics with an Emphasis on the Use of Symmetries
The textbook explains the basic principles and approximate methods of quantum mechanics, with an emphasis on using symmetries to obtain solutions to practical problems. It shows that symmetries not only allow for elegant solutions to problems that we are able to solve exactly, but they also significantly simplify the solutions to problems that we are forced to solve approximately. Furthermore, with a minimum of necessary formalism, it provides an introduction to quantum electrodynamics and its use for low-energy physics. The influence of relativistic, magnetic, and quantum-electrodynamic effects on atomic spectra is systematically analysed.
