Projectors

Projectors tells the story of our present, crushed by the past. The plot unfolds in seemingly unrelated locations – a psychiatric clinic, the Ore Mountains, and the Yugoslavian mountains, where West German films about Winnetou, based on the novels of Karl May, were once shot. The timeline spans from the Second World War to the present day. In the Velebit mountain range, a former partisan finds himself at the filming of these movies. Decades later, the same landscape becomes the scene of brutal battles during the Yugoslav Wars – and in their midst, a group of young right-wing radicals from Dortmund experiences the futility of their own ideology. Simultaneously, in Leipzig, at a conference in a psychiatric hospital, the texts of a former patient are being discussed: How did he manage to disappear without a trace? Could he predict the future? And what connects him to the globetrotting Doctor May, who was also once a patient at the same clinic?
