Programming for Android

This book introduces you to the basics of programming mobile applications for the Android operating system. It is intended mainly for novice developers and is written in a simple and understandable form. However, the reader is expected to have at least a basic knowledge of the Java object language. In the first part of this book, you will get a very detailed introduction to the Android platform, with information on the history, architecture, key features and licensing.

A separate chapter is devoted to development tools and description of the basic building blocks of an Android application. In the following chapter you will be introduced to the first simple application and get information about the structure of the project itself. Then you will create the graphical user interface and describe and use the basic visual components of the system. Building on this foundation are the next chapters, which cover using the SQLite database interface, loading and saving data files, and creating custom widgets.
