A humorous novel with kind wisdom and humanity by Jindřich Šimon Baar
The novel is set in Postřekov in Chodsko and tells the story of simple people who go to Munich to work in order to earn money for a cow. The main characters Hadam and Barka after a year's work in Munich, during which he meets the painter Pavlík, they'll make money, is returning to Postřekov, they're buying a cow, but after a short time, the cow will go. The painter Pavlík paints a picture of two young ruined people over a dead cow and sells it at his first exhibition "for a live cow, which the buyer of the picture must transport to Postřekov". Baar's short story For the Cow is also quoted in the theatrical adaptation of the film Světáci (The Worlds), directed by and starring Lumír Olšovský. It is no coincidence that he is cast as the painter Pavlík.
