The Phantom

Harry Hole returns home to Norway after three years in Hong Kong, but this is not a courtesy visit. Upon arrival, he immediately heads to police headquarters, where he asks his former superior to take over the investigation into the almost closed and solved drug-related murder case.

Harry is allowed to meet the suspected murderer, an eighteen-year-old boy whom Harry has not seen for a long time, but who was once very close to him. Their meeting is not the only surprise that awaits Harry during his investigation. The murder, initially typical of a drug-related environment, grows to dimensions that Harry never dreamed of. He immediately finds himself in great danger, as he becomes a very uncomfortable person due to his activities. Most of the tracks point in only one direction. Upward. And the investigation leads to a single, extremely surprising outcome.

A seemingly straightforward drug-related murder case becomes complicated, and Harry Hole finds himself in great danger while investigating it. There' s a truly surprising revelation at the end.

" I recommend the book especially to detective story lovers who have already read something in this genre. Beginning readers of the crime genre might have a problem with the fact that no other book will be good enough for them. Believe that Jo Nesbo and his The Phantom will become one of the books you have in your library. One of the few detective stories where it doesn' t matter at all that you know the final murderer because you were so engrossed in the reading. "

" Harry Hole fan club members can start canceling their plans for the weekend after Big Book Thursday - you won' t be able to walk away from this one. The Phantom is a dark, merciless, but also very emotional and thoroughly polished novel down to the last page. "

" The most realistic novel in the series. and probably also the darkest. While the villains don' t measure up to Nesbø' s typical madmen, they are much closer to those you might encounter in the real world. "
The New York Times Book Review

" While Harry Hole is undoubtedly the dominant force, The Phantom offers another character who adds surprising depth to the novel - and that is Oslo himself. "
The Boston Globe
