Premature baby

Approximately eight thousand newborns are born prematurely in the Czech Republic each year, which is about 7.5 to 8% of all newborns. The number of premature births is increasing worldwide and in the Czech Republic as well. The reasons for this increase are multifactorial and their share in the newborn group does not seem to be decreasing in the foreseeable future. This specific group of children has its own special needs in terms of medical care and „ aging“ of these children, respectively. As they mature and their needs change during development, other medical and non-medical disciplines are gradually becoming involved in their care.

Editors of the book MUDr. Daniela Marková and MUDr. Magdalena Chvílová Weber has been working on the issue of premature babies for her entire professional career. The authors' team represents various medical and non-medical specialties and more than 50 chapters included in the monograph cover a wide range of issues from the specifics of follow-up care from the perspective of a physician-specialist (neurology, Pneumology, cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, eye, dermatology and other medical disciplines) through the lens of non-medical specialties, The psychosocial context of caring for a preterm infant and the impact on the family.

Indispensable to the care of the immature child in primary care, pediatricians gain in this book a unique and informed expert guide with many recommendations and practical advice for practice.

The monograph is intended for paediatricians from clinical departments, paediatric general practitioners, physicians at clinical departments of perinatology and intermediate centres, as well as specialists for whom the „ immaturity“ just one of the topics of their expertise.
