Prague Spring

A ripping novel set in Czechoslovakia in 1968 from the bestselling author of The Glass Room

Simon Mawer, author Glass Room, a New York Times bestseller, returns to Czechoslovakia. This time during the turbulent 1960s and with a thrilling tale of sex, politics and betrayal.
In the summer of 1968, during the Prague Spring and the Cold War, a holiday adventure takes two Oxford students, Eleanor and James, to socialist Czechoslovakia. They suddenly find themselves in a whirlwind of events, the cornerstones of which are not only political events, but also love and betrayal.
This thoughtfully constructed and engrossing novel once again offers readers a view of the pivotal moments of Czech history from the perspective of a successful British author.

Simon Mawer

A successful British author who, despite the fact that he published his first novel somewhat unusually at the age of forty, has already gained popularity among readers and literary critics in both Europe and America with his novels. After studying zoology at Oxford, he spent several years teaching biology in England, Cyprus and Malta.
He caught the attention of the literary world with his first novel, Chimera, published in 1989, which won the McKitterick Prize for the best debut novel published in the UK. The expectations raised by the success of his first novel were undoubtedly fulfilled by his most successful novel to date, Mendel's Dwarf. This was followed by the novels The Gospel of Judas and The Fall, for which he received the Boardman-Tasker Award. One of his latest novels, Swimming to Ithaca, is inspired by Mawer's childhood spent partly in Cyprus. The Glass Room was translated into Czech in 2009 and was a great success with Czech readers.
