The aim of the editors and authors of the monograph is not to replace the textbook of paediatrics and other disciplines, the book is practically oriented and reflects everyday medical practice. It covers the whole breadth of the issues of paediatric and adolescent practical medicine. The general part includes topics such as the organisation of primary care in paediatrics in the Czech Republic, practice management, assessment issues, preventive examinations, preoperative examination, vaccinations, care of newborns and infants, including at-risk newborns, issues of school children and specific care for adolescents.

The work of a paediatric general practitioner extends to other disciplines, therefore, chapters devoted to individual clinical disciplines (cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, hematology, Pneumology, neurology, Genetics, dermatology, rheumatology, orthopedics, psychiatry, ophthalmology, infectology and others).

The reader will become familiar with modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the most common diagnoses, including differential diagnosis. Separate chapters are devoted to pharmacotherapy and acute conditions.

The book was edited by MUDr. Alena Šebková, chairwoman of the Professional Society of Practical Paediatricians of the Czech Academy of Pediatrics (ČLS JEP), together with MUDr. Zdeněk Zima. The authors are general practitioners for children and adolescents with many years of experience in the field.

The book is intended primarily for general practitioners for children and adolescents, but also for clinical paediatricians, physicians of collaborating disciplines and medical doctors.
