Postman

The famous novel The Postman by American writer David Brin is still one of the most popular and influential stories of the post-apocalyptic science fiction genre. The United States of America has become a wasteland as a result of the atomic war. The remnants of civilization have fragmented into isolated communities trying to survive as best they can. In some places, at least electricity has been kept running, in others the towns have returned to almost medieval times. These islands of civilization are not worth leaving, because the landscape is full of bandits and marauding raiders. And yet there was hope for the future. Rogue Gordon Krantz takes on the role of postman. He wanders from village to village, carrying a satchel full of letters, trying to reunite isolated communities into one interconnected and secure whole. Which, of course, the bandits don't like... The Postman was first published in 1985, yet it is more relevant today than ever. Its popularity in the 1990s was already secured by the film adaptation starring Kevin Costner. He entered pop culture history firmly last decade when his story inspired the world-famous video game franchises The Last of Us and Death Stranding.
