Politics and Media in a Consumer Society

The aim of the publication is to map, analyse and describe the so far known processes of interconnection between media communication and public policy. It should be a summary of what the social sciences are currently addressing and what conceptual frameworks they are applying to it. In this case, public policy and media are linked to normative-ontological principles, which are conceived as part of a practical philosophy. The author, who follows the legacy of Eric Voegelin, traces the different interpretations of the notions of public interest, civil society, and the perception of democratic and rule of law, and gets to the pitfalls of modernization theory in post-totalitarian countries and the transformations of language in the globalized world of the so-called new media. The book's conclusion reinforces Voegelin's theory of the need for the social sciences to recover from the destruction of the positivist era. The book, which combines contemporary knowledge from the media and scientific spheres, will certainly be appreciated not only by students of social sciences, but its unconventional approach will also attract experts in social sciences.
