Small-town vices

A compelling story of three desperate people whose lives have gone off the rails. A suspenseful thriller set in a dying town where coal was once mined and steelworks smoked. The lives of three troubled souls are turned upside down: Nathan, a volunteer firefighter, finds money secretly stored in a burning building, but it soon begins to threaten everyone around him; Nurse Callie, whose patient may not have much time left, risks her career to grant her last wish; and Andy is trying to kick his heroin addiction while tracking down and stopping a serial predator. The seemingly sleepy town shows its rusty face and it is up to them to face the past and what they can risk for the future. Ken Jaworowski works as an editor for the New York Times and has several successful plays to his credit, so writing was the next logical step in his career. Jaworowski likes to write about people who have their weaknesses but still try to find dignity and beauty in their lives. Small Town Vices is his first novel, which was enthusiastically received by critics and readers alike, and earned Jaworowski a nomination for the Edgar Allan Poe Prize. The book was published by Pavel Dobrovský - Beta in 2024 in a translation by Adela Bartlova.
