The book is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate education in the field of sports medicine, the basic content of which is human physical and sports activity in diagnostics, treatment and prevention. Completely revised and expanded edition of the book, which was released ten years ago, provides current data on the physiology and genetics of physical activity, sports training, nutrition and regeneration, sports orthopedics and traumatology. Separate chapters are devoted to the psychological aspects of sports performance, the issue of physical activity in various diseases, exercise in childhood, doping, transgender athletes, and sex tests in sports. The publication offers a comprehensive view of the issues of health and sports, taking into account the possible risks and benefits of regular physical activity, including for the prevention of the most common diseases of civilization.

The book is well documented, contains more than 60 images and almost 40 tables, which suitably complement the didactic text.

Human health can be improved through physical exercise, but on the other hand, quantitatively or qualitatively inadequate exercise can have a negative effect and lead to health damage. Therefore, the scope of physical education medicine touches the entire human organism and requires close cooperation with other medical fields, e. g. with internal medicine, general medicine, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, surgeries, orthopedics, rehabilitation, cardiology, diabetology, obesity, oncology, preventive medicine, forensic medicine, immunology, occupational hygiene, occupational medicine, genetics and others.
