Friday Bookshop
One bookshop. Four books. Four stories.
University student Fumiya Kurai has reached a crossroads. A long time ago, he borrowed a book from his father, who now wants it back. There's just one problem—Fumiya has lost it, and his father won't accept a newer edition. His only option is to check out an urban legend he found online and visit the Friday Bookshop. It's said that there, everyone can find the book they desire most. The shop is run by a peculiar trio—the energetic and impulsive manager, Makino; the sharp but kind owner, Waku; and the quiet chef, Sugawa. Fumiya doesn't yet realise that this mysterious establishment is about to turn his life upside down—from his unhealthy attitude towards books and his family relationships to the way he sees himself. The Friday Bookshop, it turns out, has much more to offer than just stories on paper.
The first volume in the popular Japanese series about the Friday Bookshop, which has been translated into more than ten languages and has charmed readers all over Europe.
“An ode to slow, therapeutic reading that melts in your mouth like a sweet mochi cake.” – Le Monde
“Inside a train station in northern Kantō stands a bookshop where, it is said, you can always find the book you desire most.
You can, of course, imagine many things by that, but in this bookshop, the work you need to read right now is said to find its way to you all by itself. When I read about it online, I pushed my glasses up my nose and stared at the ceiling.
I could have scoffed, dismissed it with an amused wave of my hand, or rejected it outright, but I did none of those things. I couldn't. Instead, I silently kept clicking, looking up the name of the station and the bookshop, and then how to get there.” – an excerpt from the book
