Even though he came from a prominent family and his mother stood by Fidel Castro's side, he had to make his way in Havana as a young boy. His health was failing, he was an outsider and he was being bullied. Yet he smiles when he remembers his childhood.

Strict and dogmatic Cuba had no sympathy even for his love of men, but his arrival in the grey of communist Czechoslovakia threw him into perhaps even greater misery. Racism, poverty, loss of illusions and meaning in life…

But Osmany Laffita did not give up and with the help of his partner Guy Gheysens, his guardian angel and soul mate in life and work, he built his dream fashion mini-empire within a few years after the Velvet Revolution, despite all kinds of obstacles. His collections have been seen in Paris and New York. And Osmany shone and shines still.
