Osip Senkovsky: Scientific expedition to Bear Island

One of the stories we now refer to as the original source of modern science fiction literature. The Fantastic Wanderings of Baron Brambeus is originally a cycle of four humorously fantastic novels that can be classified as science fiction literature. In them, the author amazes the reader with improbable and unbelievable stories, behind which is hidden a sharp satire of the conditions in Tsarist Russia. These are amendments: Autumn Boredom, Poetic Wanderings around the World, Scientific Expedition to Bear Island and Sentimental Journey to Mount Etna. In them, the hero goes to Constantinople, where he sets fire to tens of thousands of houses, finds hieroglyphics from before the Flood on Bear Island in the Arctic Ocean, and falls through the crater of Mount Etna into the inner Earth, where people live as they do in Russia, but everything is reversed.
