Orthodontic treatment of cleft patients
Cleft palate in the orofacial region is, next to congenital heart and limb defects, the most common congenital developmental defect in humans that is compatible with life. Every year, one in 500 to 700 live births is born with an orofacial cleft. In order for these children to survive and integrate into everyday life, they need specialized care. This book introduces readers to one of its essential components.
The first part of the publication focuses on the morphology of individual types of orofacial clefts, their etiology, occurrence and classification. The second is focused on the specifics of dentition development and tooth eruption in patients with individual types of cleft palate. The third, final part presents an overview of orthodontic treatment from birth to adulthood.
The publication fills " " white space" on the map of our professional literature and is intended for dentists, specialists in congenital developmental defects, orthodontists, surgeons and plastic and aesthetic surgeons, speech therapists and other professionals.
