One day we'll be good
Two eras. One Olympic dream. A novel about an obsession that does not end at the finish line.
When young Slovak runner Gejza Bakoš joins the sports division of Prague's Red Star, his dream is to represent Czechoslovakia at the Olympics. But in the state-run elite sports system of the 1980s, talent and hard work are not the only things that matter. Gejza learns first-hand that controlled doping and cynical politics stand in the way of his Olympic dream.
Forty years later, Bakoš still lives and breathes athletics. At the Sigma Bohnice stadium, he tries to train a new generation of runners: miler Dominik, an Olympic hopeful for Los Angeles 2028, and Tea, a long-distance runner whose desire for perfection is slowly starting to destroy her. Can an old-school coach manage juniors driven by social media likes — and fulfil the dream that was once taken from him?
