Oncology in clinical practice

The monograph aims to inform the professional public about the latest theoretical and clinical findings in the rapidly developing field of clinical oncology. The preclinical part of the book has been revised and expanded in the new edition – It covers all areas of molecular oncology that are necessary for a deeper understanding of the causes of the development, spread of tumors, and their response to anticancer treatment. Separate chapters are devoted to tissue homeostasis and its disorders in tumorigenesis, mechanisms of carcinogenesis, disorders of intracellular signaling, disorders of the tumor microenvironment, the process of angiogenesis and metastasis. The book also responds to advances in the field of cancer immunotherapy. The theoretical part of the book also contains important pharmacological chapters that familiarize readers with the issue of elimination of anticancer drugs, the importance of drug interactions, and the methodology of clinical studies.
In the second part, the reader will encounter a research treatment of diagnostics and treatment of basic diagnoses, which synthesizes the knowledge of clinical and radiation oncology, thus enabling the doctor to make a qualified decision for a specific patient after reading a short text. Navigation in the book is facilitated by the logical ordering of individual diagnoses in accordance with the current version of the International Classification of Diseases. The TNM classification used for all diagnoses is, of course, the latest, eighth, classification.
The third part of the book contains recommendations for the implementation of supportive treatment of the most clinically significant adverse effects and common symptoms accompanying oncological diseases (pain, nausea and vomiting, bone metabolism disorders, anemia, febrile neutropenia, cardiotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and urotoxicity or skin toxicity). A new chapter on the therapy of malignant ascites has also been added.
It is an aid primarily to oncologists, internists, and surgeons who encounter patients with malignant tumors on a daily basis, in whose diagnosis and treatment they must make a number of fundamental complicated decisions.
