On the edge

A young girl is found in the woods above the village of Gévaugnac, burnt to death on the pyre during the night. Captain Julie Frayss of the Toulouse police station is ordered to immediately terminate her leave of absence, take over the investigation and consult with Novak Marrek, a former captain who investigated similar cases with the same modus operandi two years ago. Back then, young girls were murdered by the mysterious Burner - a serial killer who narrowly escaped Marrek and still keeps him awake to this day.
Novak used to be a great detective. He's intelligent, sophisticated, thoughtful. The problem is that his obsession with unsolved murders has driven him to a mental institution. Since his failure, he has suffered from delusional obsessive fantasies and his brain sometimes creates false certainties that he cannot distinguish from reality.
Convinced that the Incinerator has returned, Novak becomes a consultant to the police and embarks on an investigation with Julia. But distinguishing reality from delusion will not be as easy as it might seem.
