Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a relatively common and usually lifelong mental illness that affects approximately 3% of the population. However, only a proportion of these people who have severe and bothersome symptoms usually seek treatment.
The treatment and research of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been the focus of authors for several decades. In our conditions there is a lack of basic literature in the Czech language, so they decided to translate their many years of experience into this monograph. The book summarizes research into the causes and treatments of OCD over the past forty years and illuminates the issue from many perspectives: It is devoted to both biological and psychological or psychotherapeutic perspectives. Psychotherapeutic approaches are discussed in more detail mainly because they are considered to be more effective. The publication is designed to, to benefit both professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, advisory staff), and students of these fields, but even thosewho suffer from the disorder, and their loved ones. The reader can select information at different levels of expertise according to his/her needs and capabilities.
