Nostalgia is taking you.
Today, people are pouring in on basically every corner or on the tram. But once you fall apart, it all depends on how they bribe you again. If the sandbaggers even catch you. With a nameless protagonist – who cares about the name here? – we walk through a city where houses settle accounts with each other in pithy Wasser German, workers vomit sand on morning trams as they trudge to their factories to work, and at night a strange creature creeps up on you in bed. The only way to escape this crazy place is with alcohol or something stronger and more dangerous like love.
Adam Tomáš' s debut alternates a merciless pace of narration with tender and fantastical passages. The author knows how to wink at his reader with a sly wink, he masters the rules of literary play and grotesque, but the playfulness does not detract from the urgency and sharpness of his prose.
It is published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
