North Bohemian races and circuits
Road racing in North Bohemia began in the 1920s. This exceptional publication is about them and about famous and unknown racers. The terrain there is hilly, so the first racing disciplines were uphill. This was the case with the first pre-war race Schöber near Rumburk and the second Erzgebirge race Dubí – Tin Man. The third race was the Loun triangl, which as the name suggests had the form of a circuit. The Second World War interrupted the promising development of motor sport in this region.
However, a year after the war, three races were held. The first one was started in Turnov for the Shield of Bohemian Paradise, the next one in Jablonec around the Mšeno dam and then in Liberec, where it was raced until 1966. Not all towns were equally lucky, some of them had only a spare life and after the first year the next one did not follow. This was the fate, for example, of the towns of Varnsdorf and Bílina.
Post-war racing reached an impressive eighteen venues where races were held. Apart from the ones already mentioned, took place in Ústí nad Labem, Bridge, Děčín, but also in smaller towns like Terezín, Žatec or Roudnice nad Labem. Most is different from other towns with its racing history. At first the races were held in the centre of the old Most, then they moved to the autodrom, where exciting tournaments were held, and where the Interseries races were held until 2003.
The authors have traced the exact routes of the races, information from the organizing activities, results lists with the names of the competitors, and they have spiced them up with interesting facts from the period press. The book is supplemented by unpublished photographs.
