Nasal polyposis

Nasal polyposis is an inflammatory disease affecting the sinonasal mucosa, which belongs to a very heterogeneous group of chronic rhinosinusitis. This disease significantly reduces the quality of life of patients and its prevalence in the population is reported to be approximately between 2–5%.

The last comprehensive work dealing with the problem of nasal polyps was published in our country more than 17 years ago and since then the level of knowledge, especially of the pathophysiology of polyposis, has advanced considerably. Currently, emphasis is placed on the differentiation of the individual pathophysiological mechanisms of the so-called. endotypes that are responsible for the clinical picture and course of the disease, i.e. the phenotype.

Therefore, in the near future, the aim should be to reflect this certain division in the individualization of therapy, which should be significantly facilitated by the introduction of biological therapy in the treatment of nasal polyposis.

The book is intended mainly for postgraduate education in otorhinolaryngology, but useful information can also be found by specialists who also come into contact with this issue (allergists and pulmonologists) and also by primary care physicians.
