What secrets is the castle in Transylvania hiding?
Count Franz Telek falls under the spell of the beautiful opera singer Stilla. However, she dies suddenly during the performance and the Count's heart nearly breaks. The traces of his love lead him to the Carpathian village of Verst, where a castle shrouded in mystery stands. The forest ranger Nik Dek and Dr. Patak had already tried to uncover it, but their efforts were thwarted by the cleverly constructed defences of the castle owner Baron Gortz and his companion, the ingenious physicist Orfanik.
Count Telek sees the silhouette of a singing singer on the battlements of the castle and is convinced that the castle has become her prison. He decides to free her, but has no idea that her image is a mirage. Vern's novel is once again a tribute to scientific discovery and human ingenuity, and even lovers of the macabre will enjoy it.
