My Thirty Years' War
Audiobook My Thirty Years' War by Hiro Onoda, translated by Martin Vackar. Read by Gustav Hašek, directed by Jakub Tabery.
World War II is over, but on a small Philippine island, Japanese soldier Hiro Onoda continues to fight the chimera of his own misconceptions. He cannot do otherwise - honour was the most basic existential criterion for him. In addition, he had undergone special training in the army for subversive warfare, had been initiated into disinformation tactics, and had even been instructed by General Yokoyama himself to hold on at all costs, as the island was a key place to reclaim the Philippines.
HIRÓ ONODA
Hiró Onoda (19. March 1922) was a World War II-era Japanese intelligence officer who hid in the Philippine jungle and surrendered only in 1974. This makes him the second longest hiding Japanese soldier. During the time he was hiding in the jungle, Onoda killed about thirty Filipinos, but due to the circumstances, President Ferdinand Marcos pardoned him.
