Immortality is a beautiful thing - but what if you have to die over and over again for it?

When Mickey Barnes' hometown of Midgard began to burn at his heels, he desperately signed up with the Expendables to get a ticket on a departing colony ship. He was given a second chance, but he could really save his neck... His mission is to be sent on jobs that mean almost certain death if necessary. He has died six times in the last eight years - and each time his consciousness has been uploaded into a new android. Now, as Mickey7, he serves in a new colony on the planet Niflheim, which resembles an icy hell and where, besides cold and hunger, dangerous insects make life difficult for the people. When he is lost one day during a routine reconnaissance mission, a replacement with serial number eight is produced in a flash, leaving two on base. Which is a problem, since the simultaneous existence of duplicate beings - so-called multiverses - is strictly forbidden after the unfortunate experience with them. And worse: the alien creatures are gaining the upper hand, and Seven is apparently the only one who can communicate with them...
