Michelup and motorcycle is a 1935 novel by the famous Czech novelist Karel Poláček
The main character is Michelup, a typical petty bourgeois, a man obsessed with finding all sorts of bargains. He lives quietly and without excesses, and his house is crammed with all sorts of things that he bought just because they were at a bargain price. Problems will arise in a moment, when he gets a cheap motorcycle, who can't even drive, he doesn't have a garage for it and he's gonna store it, as well as other things, in your own home. Gradually, this evil machine leads him into great debt, family problems and conflict with the police before, under dramatic circumstances, things return to their old ways. Karel Poláček tells the story against the backdrop of changing times, when things are no longer bought because we have the money for them, but are acquired on account and on lease. People are spending, partying and living on debt. And Hitler speaks from a radio receiver box...
