Mentats of Dune is another novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, set in the popular Dune universe created by Frank Herbert.

Roughly one hundred years after the Battle of Corrin, changes are taking place on planets that will affect the future of all humanity. The movement of Manford Torondo, which gained influence after the defeat of the thinking machines, travels from planet to planet, fanatically destroying all traces of technology. Gilbertus Albans, the ward of the hated robot Erasmus, has founded a Mentat school on the planet Lampadas, where he teaches his students to be “human computers”, perform higher-order mathematical calculations and find logical patterns. Reverend Mother Raquella Berto-Anirul is trying to rebuild the Sisterhood with her most talented student, Valya Harkonnen, who has her own goal – to take revenge on Vorian Atreides, a hero from the time of the Butlerian Jihad, whom she blames for the fall of her family.

Josef Venport is also waging war against the anti-technology fanatics. Thanks to his mutated Navigators, his space fleet controls almost all interplanetary trade. But blind faith does not yield easily…
