Me, Snake
Is he the most captivating con artist of the 1970s, or an unscrupulous con artist? He owes his worldwide fame to the series dedicated to him by Netflix, which he says is " eighty percent fictional. " The spectacular escapes of this Frenchman of Vietnamese origin, who rampaged throughout Asia, are countless. Charles Sobhraj is said to speak five languages and is an expert in international law. He owes his nickname " The Snake" to his ability to deceive his victims, put them to sleep - sometimes for quite a long time - and then confuse investigators. Number of victims? Unknown.
When he was released from prison in 1997, he returned to France, tried to sell his story, and made contact with the CIA. He wanted to use his contacts with Islamist circles and, on behalf of the Americans, carried out several intelligence missions in Pakistan. However, in 2003, he made a fatal mistake. He was arrested again and sentenced to twenty years in prison. On December 24, 2022, he was released from Kathmandu Central Prison and returned to France.
In this intimate, personal narrative, written in prison, seventy-eight-year-old Charles Sobhraj reveals his truth—or rather, truths—for the first time.
