Masks of the Gods 2 - Oriental Mythology

After exploring the very roots of myths and the influence of mythology on the human understanding of the world in the first volume, entitled Primitive Mythology, Campbell delves into Eastern mythology and its development in this second volume. He explores the fundamental myths and folk traditions that evolved into the great philosophies of the Egyptians and Sumerians, and into the characteristic religions of India, China, and Japan, namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Shintoism. While Western religions are concerned with the duality of good and evil, Eastern religions focus on the promise of eternal life. The volume Oriental Mythology then examines how Eastern religions manifested themselves in different ways of thinking and expression.
