The second part of the novel fresco
The second part of the novel fresco begins with the arrival of Prince Charles in Bohemia and ends two years after the death of his father, John of Luxembourg, at Crécy, when Charles takes power both at home and in the Empire. The entire 14th century is one of the most glorious periods of our history, when Prague was the centre of the Roman Empire, but also aspired to become the “second Rome” of Christianity. Complex intrigues and the struggle for power at home and abroad are intertwined with the efforts of the South Bohemian nobility, represented by the Lords of Landštejn, to strengthen the position of Bohemia within the Lands of the Bohemian Crown and to protect the class privileges of the nobility. In this epic, power intrigues and war scenes alternate with the everyday concerns of the novel's heroes, all in a colourful picture of life in the High Middle Ages.
