Meadow

The carefully composed novella Meadow follows the character of the good man from the beginning of his illness to his death, his miserly wife and his son, whose compassionate relationship with his father is intertwined with a strengthening love relationship. The specificity of the novel grows out of the eloquence of the close-ups of the deserted house, in the detailed descriptions of relationships, in the careful dialogues in which the injustices of the past shine through. About the author: Prose writer Marie Vosiková (1942 - 2014), a native of Ostrava who alternately lived in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm or in Switzerland with her daughters, graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, worked for a long time in the field of computer technology. She entered literature unobtrusively, but unconventionally for her time. She made her debut in the Ostrava-based Profil with a set of distinctive allegorical stories reminiscent of the fable Drops of Dew (1979), followed by a thoughtfully structured novel about life and death, Louka (1981), in which she demonstrated her narrative skills to the utmost. This was followed by six prose pieces with a tight content, which in terms of genre ranged between the novel and the short story, thematically anchored in everyday realistic life, but full of fantasy and symbolism in the intimate sphere. The ensemble was titled Keys (1987), as if to express that man is eternally condemned to search for the keys to the meaning of his own life. She is also the author of the following short story books: Ladies without umbrella, publ. Anagram, Ostrava, 2002, Just Me and You, publisher. Isadora.
