Louis Pergaud: The Button War

A worldwide favourite story about the irreconcilable war between the Loverniks and the Velraňaks, two groups of boys from neighbouring villages who hate each other and fight each other in every possible way. In each of the battles, the winning side receives war trophies - buttons, braces or belts of captured warriors. It is a very humiliating affair for the prisoners - after a big beating from the enemy, they return home ragged, and another, this time parental, beating awaits them at home.
