Girls are going missing in the Old Order Amish community

Kate Burkholder, the chief of police in the small Ohio town of Painters Mill, is assisting detectives in the search for missing Amish girls. However, there are no clues, the Old Order Amish community is tight-lipped, and the situation worsens when one of the missing girls is found dead. Then comes a personal blow for Kate – another missing person is someone who was very close to her, and she suddenly loses her ability to maintain a professional distance from the case. And then, she stumbles upon a lead in the most unlikely of places.
