Letters from Grandma
An engaging story from the Czech borderlands, where the present meets the past
Jana is about to turn thirty. She doesn't much enjoy her job as a bank clerk, and her relationship with her boyfriend isn't exactly ideal either. She has just inherited an old house from her grandmother, Anna, which will probably bring a lot of worries with it. And while she tries to figure out what to do with the house and with herself, she starts receiving letters that her grandmother wrote for her at the end of her life. Through them, Jana gets a glimpse into her grandmother's hidden past, and thanks to this, she gradually begins to see her own life through different eyes.
Anna lives in a small village near the German Sudetenland. It is October 1944, and she has just celebrated her eighteenth birthday. But instead of going to dances, she is helping to hide partisans and facing the daily fear that the ongoing war brings. In addition to all this, she is also experiencing her first – and what seems to be fated – love…
