A Little Book on Big Educational Ideas
How about turning the classroom into a workshop full of joy and combining education
with positive emotions? Who can do this? You, the teachers! The debate on school reform will go on for years, but you can start modern teaching without it. Maybe even tomorrow.
It's time for you to start teaching like an artist! Testing at the board? A waste of time. Monotonous lectures? A bore that won't be committed to memory. Rote learning? A drag. The bell has tolled for all that!
According to the author, frontal teaching, demanding homework, and assessment based on an average of grades have no place in the Czech school system. He explains that students learn by far the most through so-called 'active learning', that is, when they acquire knowledge and experience in their own way. This should also be the starting point for the teacher, who can use a variety of different methods to support pupils' different learning styles, from teamwork to highly effective peer-to-peer learning. On the other hand, they should never compare pupils with each other or give them bad marks.
Teacher, psychologist, and didactician Robert Čapek will show you how to draw pupils to your subject and awaken the enthusiastic natural scientists, future journalists, or creative architects within them. Because a modern teacher isn't at school to teach 'the material'; they are there to let their pupils play, create, and discover. And through this, they get an education without being bored to death by school. In the book, you will find lots of specific tips and procedures based on scientific findings and practical experience from schools where modern teaching methods are already in common use.
It also serves as an inspiration for parents who are unsure which school to choose for their children and what they can expect from their chosen institution.
