When John wakes up in the hospital with extensive gunshot wounds, he knows he got off cheap.

John Adderley is a tough guy – an FBI agent, a lone wolf with his own methods who keeps his problems to himself. But the last one is about to go over his head after all. A botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel ended with a gun to the head, a bloody shootout and persistent panic attacks. Until he testifies against the cartel in court, John is being placed in a witness protection program… in his native Sweden.

Of his own volition, he joins the cold case unit of the Karlstad police, where he takes on the ten-year-old disappearance of Emelia Bjurwall, a young heiress to a clothing chain. The only clues are blood and semen found on the cliffs outside the city. The police suspected a kidnapping and even arrested a man from a poorer part of town, but because they were never able to find Emelia's body, they had to release him.

To solve the case, John not only has to dig up several Karlstad skeletons and maneuver between new supervisors and colleagues, but also rethink your approach, because apparently, unconventional methods may have borne fruit in the United States, but this is Sweden. And to make matters worse, John's estranged brother enters the scene.

All this while a noose tightens around his neck, woven by enemies from across the Atlantic.
There was a bounty on his head.
And the penalty for betraying the cartel is death.
