Some Amish secrets are too scary to reveal
The Gingerich family's Amish farm catches fire in the middle of the night, burning down an old barn. As if that weren't bad enough in itself, the desperate parents discover that their eldest son Daniel has disappeared somewhere. And firefighters find human remains in the ruins of the barn.
Kate Burkholder, chief of the Painters Mill Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the farm, is taking the case. Initial reports do not bode well - the fire was most likely started deliberately. In addition, the autopsy will prove that Daniel Gingerich actually burned to death in the barn.
Kate sets out to investigate the murder of a young man who has received nothing but praise from everyone who knew him. But all that glitters is not gold, and the Chieftainess uncovers one terrible secret after another from the fleeting hints among the Amish community...
