Whilst Mum was asleep
When you're fifteen and your life is being shaped by the onset of Normalisation. Beatrice Landovská, daughter of the actor Pavel Landovský, takes us back to the time when the screws of Normalisation were tightening.
A unique confession from a girl who, on the threshold of adulthood, records the process of her own coming-of-age in her diary with humour and irony. She is searching for her own place in the complex social situation of the second half of the 1970s, when Charter 77 was being formed. Against the backdrop of historical events, the author presents a raw, authentic picture of Normalisation-era persecution, which intensifies an already complicated adolescence.
The diary entries portray a complex relationship with her eccentric and vivacious father. However, it is thanks to her father that the author gains access to the distinctive community of the Czech dissent, with which she, as an outsider, gradually grows closer. She slowly finds her own way in difficult circumstances. Beatrice Landovská's memoir prose functions both as a document of a turbulent time and as the confession of a shattered soul.
A Czech Radio recording from 2026.
