Karel Steigerwald: Weak Afternoon Sun
What form does success in life take? And how can we tell if we have achieved it or if we have been heading in the wrong direction? These are the questions that playwright, screenwriter and journalist Karel Steigerwald asks his characters in his 1976 radio play The Faint Afternoon Sun. In it, he created two distinctive opportunities for actors of two generations, directed by Josef Červinka and performed by Bohumil Švarc and Karel Höger. Despite its unremittingly tendentious treatment of historical facts, Slabé polejní slunce (Weak Afternoon Sun) is worth a listen. According to Bohumil Švarec, the character of the retired German professor was one of Karel Höger's last radio roles, if not the last at all.
