Jules Verne: The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians

Although Verne's books are often considered young adult reading today, they are that rare type of literature that we enjoy reaching for regardless of age. Radio's Wondrous Journeys with Jules Verne continues with an adaptation of The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians. A haunting drama set in the dracula-like bleak landscape of the Transylvanian Alps, we recommend it especially to faithful listeners of Saturday opera nights. They are the ones best able to put themselves in the mindset of the negative hero Baron Gortz, who is willing to kill for his passionate love of opera.
