John of Žatec: The ploughman and death
A cross-section of a dialogical composition written in 1400. Translated from German by Pavel Eisner. Sometime around 1400, i.e. during the reign of Wenceslas IV, Johannes von Saaz, the town scribe, notary and administrator of the local Latin school (much later also the prothonotary of New Town Prague), wrote a dialogical prose Ackermann aus Böhmen, translated as Oráč z Čech or Oráč a Smrt. This piece, depicting a heated argument between the Ploughman and Death, who took his beautiful young wife from the Ploughman after the birth of their child, is one of the oldest and particularly valuable works of German artistic prose. Performers: Jaroslava Adamová, Radim Vašinka and Jiří Schwarz
