Jan Vedral: The Tantalus Family

The first three of the intended twenty-four episodes of the mythological series The Achaeans (The Birth of the Gods, The Passion of Tantalus, and The Courtship of Pelops) chronicle the initial conflict between the Lydian king Tantalus and the gods and its aftermath up to the race between Pelops and Oinomaus. The dramaturgy has chosen a staging key that offers the experience of the play to audiences of all ages - it neither assumes nor excludes knowledge of the myth. The directorial concept is based primarily on a constant flow of energy that draws the audience into the story, even those completely untouched by antiquity. The director Aleš Vrzák tries to justify the ancient myths in connection with today's times. It therefore relies on the generally valid overlaps of the myth, especially "the struggle of chaos and order that has never ended and will never end".
