Jan Kolář: The Trial or Traitor to the Nation
In the spring of 1914, material appeared in the pages of the National Newspaper which accused the MP Karel Šviha of paid cooperation with the Prague police. Švih, who sued the newspaper, failed to refute the accusations in court. After the war and after the establishment of Czechoslovakia, it was proven that Šviha was in contact with Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este through the Prague police, to whom he supplied confidential messages from the Czech political camp in return for money. The affair became one of the sources of inspiration for Franz Kafka's novel The Trial. Persons and cast: Karel Šviha, MP (Jiří Štěpnička), Member of the Young Czechs' Party (Radoslav Brzobohatý), Pâté, law student (Michal Dlouhý), Masaryk, Member of Parliament for the Realist Party (Karel Pospisil), Witness, Pastik's classmate (Zdeněk Mahdal), Švihová (Valerie Zawadská), Švih's niece (Simona Vrbická), President of the Court (Otakar Brousek I. ), member of the Swiha Party (Petr Nározný), narrator (Josef Somr), "Národní listy" (Antonín Molčík), a representative of the state police (Jiří Klem), lid (Michal Pavlata) and others.
